Vascular Interventions Online returns 11-13 October 2023.

This October VIO returns and promises to be bigger and better than ever. With engaging debate, presentations and live cases from leading centres of excellence globally, VIO 2023 promises to be a unique immersive free-to-access educational event. Dr Frank Arko is Director of Endovascular Surgery and Co-director of the Aortic Institute at Carolinas Medical Center of the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Atrium Health, Charlotte, North Carolina, US, among the busiest aortic repair centres in the US.
A global expert on aortic repair techniques and peripheral arterial disease, Dr Arko completed medical school and residency at Texas A&M University, and a Fellowship at Stanford University, US.
Board certified by the American Board of Surgery – Vascular Surgery, Dr Arko’s specialist interests include minimally invasive surgery, trauma and surgical critical care, and vascular surgery.
He is a member of a number of professional societies and bodies, including the American College of Surgeons, the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, the Society of Vascular Surgery, and the International Society of Endovascular Specialists.
Widely published, Dr Arko has served as Principal Investigator and on the steering committees of several large international trials.

Prof Stephen Black is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and a Professor of Venous Surgery at Kings College, London. He also serves as Clinical Lead for Vascular Surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Co-R&D Lead for the Cardiovascular Directorate (Cardiology, Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery). Prof Black is also a Co-founder and Medical Director at UK Vein Clinic.
Prof Black’s principal clinical interest is the treatment of Venous Disease, and he has established a large practice for the treatment of both Acute and Chronic Deep Venous Disease, and for superficial venous disorders.
Prof Black completed his basic medical training in South Africa (University of the Witwatersrand) before emigrating to the United Kingdom where he completed an MD degree at St Marys Hospital and Imperial College London.
Program Director for both the European Venous Forum Hands on Workshops (EVF HOW) and The Charing Cross Vascular Symposium Venous Programme, Prof Black has served as Global and UK Principal Investigator for a number of ongoing trials, and been involved in a number of ‘first in Man’ procedures. Prof Black is currently the Editor in Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Review and on the Editorial Board for International Angiology.

Prof Nicos Labropoulos is a Professor of Surgery and Radiology and Director of the Vascular Laboratory at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Long Island, New York, US. He completed his medical training at the University of London and his PhD and vascular fellowship at St Mary’s Hospital of Imperial College, London, UK. He has a major interest in pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of vascular diseases. He has been a travelling fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a recipient of the Presidential award of the Society of Vascular Surgery, the UIP Gold Medal award of excellence for clinical research in Phlebology, the IUA Hippocrates medal and the Sushrutha Award for excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of venous and lymphatic disorders. Prof Labropoulos is actively involved in many national and international vascular societies as well as national committees and accrediting organizations. He has more than 300 publications being cited over 15,000 times. He is on the editorial board of 11 journals and serves as a reviewer for 25 journals. He has edited five vascular textbooks and has contributed over 60 book chapters. He has taken part in multiple consensus statements and development of guidelines on diagnosis and management of vascular disease. Prof Labropoulos gives lectures in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Greek.

Prof Hence Verhagen is Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Prof Verhagen graduated from medical school in 1992 and completed his training in The Netherlands, Zimbabwe and the UK, and his vascular Fellowship at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. In 2002, he became Associate Professor in Vascular Surgery at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, before in 2007 he accepted the position of Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.
With his special interests covering aortic pathology and interventions, Prof Verhagen has expertise in vascular imaging, carotid surgery, and peripheral interventions, and has performed a number of “first in Man” implantations of aortic endografts. He has served a Principal Investigator or on the steering committees of several significant trials around aortic stentgrafts.
Widely published in international journals, Prof Verhagan has served in several leadership positions in leading societies and events, and is the 2021 President of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS).
